This book is about a girl named Opal with a dog named Winn Dixie. Opal is missing her Mom and has just moved to a new town.

It was great when she found the dog in the Winn Dixie grocery store. We also like the part where Opal has a big party.

Some parts of this story are sad, but it is still an awesome book. We think that this is a good choice for older elementary students. If you like dogs or ever had to move, this is the book for you!

I read Junie B. Jones is Almost a Flower Girl by Barbara Park.

Junie B. Jones' aunt is getting married and Junie B wants to be flower girl but she isn't. A little girl from the groom's side is and she is very dissapointed. At the wedding while the little girl was walking down the aisle Junie B. stops her and took some flowers from her basket and they started to fight over the flowers. At the end they became friends!

I also read a Miley magazine. Gossip alert!
Miley Ray Cyrus isn't her real name. Destiny Hope Cyrus is her real name. She legally changed it! But why would she changed an awesome name like that?
It's way better then Miley Ray Cyrus. Her parents weren't happy about it. She wanted her name to be like her father's.

I just finished reading Along Came Spider by James Preller. Fifth graders Spider and Trey have been next door neighbors and friends for most of their lives. Trey is a little bit quirky and “different”, but this has never bothered Spider. Things start to change in 5th grade when Spider is pressured to drop Trey in order to fit in with the “cool” kids.

I think that this is a book that all 4th and 5th graders should read. The pressure to fit in starts early and this story explores these issues and offers some ideas on how to cope with this type of peer pressure. I am curious to hear what you think of this book. Is it really impossible to be yourself and fit in? What can we do at our school to make sure that everyone feels welcomed and accepted?

I just finished reading this RI Children's Book award nominee by Jon Scieszka. In it he shares many hilarious tales about his childhood, growing up with 5 other brothers. The stories are very short, only a page or two each. This makes for a very quick read. If you like to laugh, give this biography a try!

The Magic Half

One of my goals this summer is to read all the books on the 2010 RI Children’s Book Award list of nominated titles. As I mentioned last week, she is also the author of the popular Ivy + Bean series.

Muri is an 11 year old girl who has an older set of twin brothers and a younger set of twin sisters. As the lone “single” in her family, she frequently feels different. Her life changes when she discovers that she actually has a twin. The only problem is that this twin lives in 1935, not the present. The Graveyard Book

I just finished reading this year's Newberry Award winner, The Graveyard Book. It is written by Neil Gaiman, who many of you might know from his other books such as Coraline and Wolves in the Walls.

The book is very creepy! Nobody Owens escapes as a toddler on the night his family is murdered, to a graveyard. The "inhabitants" of the graveyard protect him from this cold blooded murderer and decide to raise him as one of their own. The only problem is, he is alive, and they are not! Read the book if you are brave enough to learn about his unconventional childhood. I would love to hear what you all think of it!

She let Emma have it. Ivy was reading her book and didn’t care about what was going on. She was reading about this girl named Mary Anning who broke a record. It took 1 year for her to find all the fossils for her to create the dinosaur she was finding. She found a dinosaur called Ichtysaur. Then they wanted to break Mary Anning's record they found bones and put them together. It looked like a dinosaur but it wasn’t. They were proud of themselves for trying. They think they broke a different record. The biggest play date ever!!

This book was really funny and I think that Babymouse really gave Felicia Furrypaws a good lesson that night.

This was a really surprising story, based on true events in Abraham Lincoln’s life. This story teaches the lesson that what you do matters! We thought the story was cool because it was thrilling and funny. People all around the world will like this story of Lincoln’s childhood.

They get run out of town when Phoney Bone tries to run for Mayor and that’s when it gets bad. So they get lost and find a village. They get chased by who knows what!! It’s a really good book you should read it.
